Spaces and Libraries

Community Commons brings together a vast ecosystem of resources, data, and stories through its powerful back-end Infohub knowledgebase, Community Commons content libraries, and Community Commons Spaces. Community Commons content libraries bring the principles of knowledge management into the work of equitable, sustainable community change. They leverage the thousands of hand-curated resources, tools, guides, and stories we’ve developed and refined for over the past decade on CommunityCommons.org. Community Commons Spaces are a product from the Institute for People, Place, and Possibility (IP3) that equip organizations and communities with a customizable online content library for knowledge management, powered by the Community Commons back-end knowledgebase. Community Commons offers a robust, sustainable set of resources, and Spaces provide the ability for communities to curate a subset of resources, customize the website look and feel, searchable topics, and content organization, and develop learning objectives and learning journeys to align knowledge across partners and stakeholders.

Spaces

Community Commons Spaces originated from the idea that adopting knowledge management processes and practices helps organizations more effectively retain and build upon prior learning—effective knowledge sharing and collaboration are vital for fostering thriving communities. Spaces provide a way to manage knowledge and information for an entire learning community, coalition, or collaborative. They provide a unique platform for knowledge and learning where community members can connect, share information, and engage in collaborative efforts.

IP3 has launched four new Spaces over the past two years:

  • The Public Health Equity Resource Navigator (PHERN) in partnership with the American Public Health Association and the Alliance for Disease Prevention and Response

  • The Collaborative Action Network Resource Library in partnership with North Sound Accountable Community of Health, and

  • The Health Impact Assessment Space in collaboration with the Pew Charitable Trusts and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

  • The Northwest Innovation Lab in partnership with the Northwest Regional Primary Care Association

Health Equity Libraries

Health Equity Libraries on Community Commons build capacity for changemakers to advance equity for a specific priority population by sharing relevant resources. Priority populations are exploration avenues on Community Commons that represent diverse groups, communities, demographics, identities, statuses, and people with lived experiences. They connect users directly with populations of interest, lift up important underserved groups, and help root our work in equity and justice. Resources curated for Health Equity Libraries:

  • Share practical, actionable strategies to guide on-the-ground work

  • Provide access to data and scientific articles that build the case for equity and its relation to well-being

  • Lift up stories and lived experience from people in priority populations

Partner Project Libraries

At IP3, we often work with partners to create a customized content library to host a body of resources for a specific purpose on Community Commons. These libraries curate and make searchable a body of resources in one easy-to-navigate online home. For example, the Equitable Economies Policy Library curates policies that address inequities and that provide equitable opportunities and prosperity for all.
