Portable employee benefits follow people from job to job. You don't lose these benefits when you change jobs. Health insurance and retirement can be portable benefits. So can workers' pay and paid time off. Trade groups, faith groups, labor unions, and others can sponsor these benefits. Few jobs give all these benefits. This is because most workers are contract and/or short-term. Contracted and short-term workers need benefits, but are least likely to have them. A new system of portable benefits could give people security and a path to economic growth.
