This document focuses on how researchers may adapt existing in-person methodologies for conducting focus groups effectively to an online format, at least through the COVID-19 pandemic, if not beyond. It is based on the direct experiences of Vital Strategies and its partners conducting online focus groups during the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic in both high-income countries and in low- and middle-income countries with a range of study populations, from the general public to minority groups and target communities.
