Not all students feel comfortable at school. Yet students who feel safe and supported at school do better. They are less likely to have emotional problems. They are more likely to attend and graduate from college. There are many ways to create safe and supportive learning environments. Training for teachers and other school staff, starting student-run clubs, and mentoring programs are some of the ways to create a better school environment where students feel that they belong. Providing more support for mental health also helps.
