This blog post highlights the mental health crisis occurring in jails, where the suicide rates in local jails far exceed that of people in state prisons; while eleven percent of deaths in prisons are due to unnatural causes such as suicide and drug overdose, nearly half (49 percent) of deaths in jails were due to unnatural causes.
