Frederick, MD — Community Commons, Inc. and the Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network celebrated the placement of a marker for paddlers on the Monocacy River on Friday, June 9. There are six markers along the Monocacy in Frederick County. The idea is to help paddlers know the normal conditions of the local section of the river, and safety suggestions.
Community Commons provides maps in the receptacle on the markers, but the Monocacy Scenic River map and guide is also available at no cost by request. Email info@communitycommons.org or call 301-662-3000.
The Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network spans several states and the District of Columbia, and connects the entire watershed’s special places through a system of parks, refuges, museums, historic communities, and water trails. Community Commons, Inc., through its partnership with the Gateways Network, is working to encourage safe travel on our local waterway and promote efforts to keep them clean and vital. The Monocacy River runs north south through central Maryland from the Gettysburg PA region to the confluence with the Potomac River near Dickerson MD.
